AMD launches world’s fastest graphics card, the HD 6990

AMD launches world’s fastest graphics card, the HD 6990

Video game console developers have the luxury of limiting their avenues of competition to peripherals and first-party/exclusive releases, at least until a new generation of hardware is released. Graphics card manufacturers aren’t quite so lucky, caught as they are in a constant race to one-up competitors with products that offer more visual bang than what’s on the market.

AMD takes the lead today with the release of its Radeon HD 6990 graphics card, the world’s fastest… until the next “world’s fastest” is released, that is. The beastly new video adapter offers plenty more of that visual bang, though it comes at a considerable cost: $699. Yes, you could buy one of the market’s top-shelf tablets for around the same price. That tablet won’t run Grand Theft Auto IV with its settings juiced to the max though, will it?

The HD 6990 is a dual-chip card, featuring two powerful GPUs crammed together onto a single circuit board along with 4GB of GDDR5 memory. It has massive power needs as you might expect, and some reviews call it out for being noisy — this is true of many high-end graphics card, which require constant cooling to prevent overheating — but the card itself is quite powerful, with a built-in switch that boosts the clock speed up from 830MHz to 880MHz.

All of which is really just an overly technical way of saying that this thing is a beast. The full set of technical specifications is quite daunting, but the takeaway is pretty simple: with the HD 6990 installed in a comparably powerful desktop, you can expect every game that’s out or being released in the next year or two to run at or near its maximum settings. Of course, this is true of other high-end cards on the market as well. They’re not the “world’s fastest” though, are they?

Singularity™

Singularity™

For the past 3 days I have been playing Raven Games’ Singularity a First Person, Science fiction shooter with a thrilling plot line based around the Russian island of Katorga-12, the only location in the world of the Element E99. The element E99 is highly radioactive and can alter the fabric of time and space, which is why you; Captain Reznov; must go (with a team) and investigate why the island is “acting up”. From beginning to end the game was fun, horrifying but invigorating. It really makes you think about what the world’s superpowers could be doing in their spare time. Let’s just hope this isn’t on their list of idea’s.

Like most science-fiction games the storyline becomes dry. I believe that sci-fi games are roughly made because most developers don’t care about the “can’t Put down” aspect of games and that the power’s and the effects one can inflict should carry you through the game. Now this can be debated over many different games and be proven wrong (Dead Space, The Suffering , Fatal Frame) but for now lets go with it. I sometimes got bored of it and played a different game from time to time. Like other games I’ve played by Activision It was repetetive and short but it was scary enough for me to continue playing just to get rid of it. Great graphics, great play style, okay multiplayer but all in all I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition Includes Duke Nukem Forever Demo

Duke Nukem Forever Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition Includes Duke Nukem Forever Demo
2K announced today that every copy of the upcoming Borderlands Game of the Year edition will include a certificate for the Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club, which will net members access to exclusive content, but most importantly, early access to the Duke Nukem Forever demo when it becomes available sometime before the game’s release in 2011.
It isn’t clear how much of a head start First Access club members will have with the demo, or what the demo will contain, but that’s understandable given that the game is still a year from release. But if I had to guess, I’d say members will get a week of exclusive access, and the demo will be the same one Gearbox used when the game was officially unveiled during PAX Prime 2010 a few weeks back.

The Borderlands GOTY edition goes on sale October 12, and includes all four of the game’s DLC packs and a Borderlands territory map, all for $59.99 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and $49.99 on PC.

I personally have more search and destroy matches played than all of my other matches put together. So this was a huge shock for me! I hope this is just a Rumour. EA’s Dead Space

I just recently purchased the game Dead Space by EA. One of the most Exciting and heart-pounding video games ever made. On Lower difficulties its a breeze, On higher difficulties it is one of the scariest experiences in existence. Not only is it freaky but when attacking enemies you worry on escaping rather than killing them. For the best experience hard is what you need to fully place yourself in isaac’s shoes, but personally i wouldn’t want to be on the ship. . Throughout the game there are Stores which give ammo, suits and multiple weapons. Even though their is a multitude of weapons, suits and new ways to survive in the harsh cold vast of space their is no safety anywhere. My last line to you all who are interested in DeadSpace “They Come in through the vents”

BattleField: Bad Company 2

Hey! JasoTB here after a long break i’ve decided to start again with BBC2. I’ve recently bought the game and its very fun. The use of vehicles is easy to learn but realistically scary. Most of the time I worry about making sure the UH-64 Blackhawk stays steady and makes it easier for everyone to get the kills that they need. I’ve grown an unusual tendency to the recon class. This class is a “sniping class” In this game they make it a bit more complicated in saying that gravity moves alters the bullets path which is in no doubt true, which makes sniping from long distances that much more enjoyable. Engineers are using silenced SMG weapons, which include the Scar-L Carbine, UMP-45, And the M1A1 Thompson. each level up you get a new item for your class whether it be to move faster, more vehicle damage, or heal your team faster each is highly addictive and fun so I give BBC a 8.5/10battlefield bad company 2 BattleField: Bad Company 2, Battlefield Bad Company™ 2 brings the spectacular Battlefield gameplay to the forefront of next-gen consoles and PC, featuring best-in-class vehicular combat set across a wide range of huge sandbox maps each with a different tactical focus. New vehicles like the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and the UH-60 transport helicopter allow for all-new multiplayer tactics in the warzone. Extensive fine-tuning ensures that this will be the most realistic vehicle combat experience to date. Tactical destruction is taken to new heights with the updated DICE Frostbite engine. Players can now take down entire buildings or create their own vantage points by blasting holes through cover, thereby delivering a unique dynamic experience in every match.

Players can also compete in 4-player teams in 2 exclusive squad-only game modes, fighting together to unlock exclusive team awards and achievements. Spawn on your squad to get straight into the action and use gadgets such as the tracer dart in conjunction with the RPG to devastating effect. Excellence in the battlefield is rewarded with an extensive range of pins, insignias and stars to unlock along with 50 dedicated ranks to achieve. Variety also extends into the range of customizable kits weapons and vehicles available. With 4 distinct character classes, dozens of weapons, several gadgets and specializations, players have over 15,000 kit variations to discover and master. Players will be able to fine-tune their preferred fighting style to give them the edge in combat.

All of these features combine to deliver spectacular and unpredictable action moments found nowhere else in a modern warfare experience. The game also sees the return of the “B” Company squad in a more mature and intense single player experience where the stakes are higher than ever.
